I wanted to go to law school too for a little while, but the job market just doesn't justify the investment. I did read on here applications since 2004 have cut in half, so it'll work itself out.

I wish LSU had a true management eta: minor, but entrepreneurship is the closest thing, so I have a minor in it. the allure of being your own boss and taking that leap of faith for huge financial gain sure is enticing, but I haven't found that great "eureka" to a something with serious need recognition yet.

I wouldn't go to another university on the basis of a minor.

still, it's frustrating that LSU hasn't diversified its major offerings with market trends. LSU just now is getting a sales institute, and that's probably because of Eli Jones

yup. it's why i do it. ive always loved the concept of the self-made man

lots of people have great ideas. maybe 5% of those people actually try to get these ideas off the ground.

you dont need a piece of paper that says "management." you can either manage people, or you can't. gen bus with entrepreneurship is fine. degrees are the new high school diploma. if you're not in a technical or engineering field learning specific skills, it's just a piece of paper saying that you completed the rite of passage. you'll be find carving your own path

But that sounds like your major interest, based off of your posts.

it's a pretty pessimistic view of school, but it's true. if you're not in engineering or something similar, you're getting a slightly better HS diploma. because of unlimited free money from the federal government (scholarships and loans), everyone can go to school now and degrees are extremely devalued. it's just a thing you have to do now

As far as the inflated degree is concerned-I think Obama's community college plan would actually be a sound idea if the individual had no choice but to use the tuition towards a trade. It's a colossal waste of money when they use that opportunity for a business or mass comm degree when there's an exceptional high demand for a trade like welding

Still searching here for what I should do. Sort of accumulated a lot of skills but nothing to where am better than moderately above average. Just curious about how other people who went through a similar experience decided what they liked.

I don't want to sound like a dick but the idea of entrepreneurship as a college major just sounds ridiculous....especially when you say this:

It is very enticing but a college degree is not going to REALLY teach you how to be an entrepreneur. If you really were one you would have spent all of the money you paid towards college and started a business. I mean, if you get free schooling and want a degree just to have one that is great but I hope you are already running a business you started as you attend school, if not you probably are not a true entrepreneur yet and that is something that can't really be taught IMO.......

No need for concern as I just wanted a management minor, but the closest thing LSU offers to a MGT minor is entrepreneurship. it's all management classes, just under a different name

Of the 18 hours I took for it, I'd say only 6 of them put a heavy focus on entrepreneurship. the rest were almost strictly management

Ok, well then that is different. I got my degree in business management and it served me very well while I got my businesses started but being a entrepreneur is really something you can't learn in school, mentors are way more effective if you aren't born one. As long as you know that you have a fighting chance!

I'm in this situation as well. just finished my undergrad degree and about to schedule to take my praxis to be a teacher. By 21 I had already written both an offensive and defensive playbook complete with terminology simple enough to run on the high school level yet complex enough to be used in the college ranks. I spent some time in the oil field and absolutely loved every moment of it. Right now i'm currently a supervisor at a steel foundry and my job is willing to pay my tuition should I choose to pursue another degree in engineering, which im considering but my heart isn't truly in it. I'm also part owner of a small car customization business that's gained decent notoriety in the car world thanks to social media outlets such as Instagram. My passion is pushing me towards coaching and customizing cars. Oh well, I still have time to figure it all out, i'm not even 25 yet. I hope that you to are able to find what you truly want to do and master it.
