Having a 'spare tyre' or 'beer belly' of fat around the waist is deadlier than being obese, a study has warned.
Normal-weight adults who carried fat around their middles had twice the risk of early death those who were overweight or obese but with normal fat distribution.
Both men and women with a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) and central obesit - fat around the middle - had a greater risk of early death from any cause than those with similar BMI but no belly fat.
Expected survival estimates were consistently lower for those with central obesity when age and BMI were controlled for.
Previous research found central obesity was associated with increased total and cardiovascular death.
It has been found those with a fat tummy have less muscle mass, which is a factor associated with higher risk of death and metabolic dysregulation.

It's crazy how many men look like they are in halfway decent shape but have a large stomach

Score one for the non alcoholic fat guys

Sounds like bullshite by the fat agenda.
You're telling me a guy who has muscled arms and legs but a beer gut is somehow unhealthier than a guy who is just flabby all over?

So, being husky is worse than being huge?

So stupid. The person in that pic is more at risk than an obese person?

Better slack up on the ole beer belly. Good thing it's winter time. Time to switch to bourbon.

That's my go to 365. I can pinch an inch or two. But I'm in great shape. It's hard to keep a flat stomach in your 40's.

That belly button would get it from me

Oh, so now we can fat shame, but only to people who can stop themselves from being fat?
