On average, it takes a train over a mile to stop. That's 5,280 feet, 1,760 yards, so more than 17 football fields for a train.

I was under the impression the cars in question were on the shoulder? If so, the truck driver is primarily at fault. If not, then I agree with you and the Good Samaritan made an extremely bad decision.

Both vehicles that were struck by the 18 wheeler was in the middle of I-110 - at least that is what the pictures on WAFB and WBRZ web pages show.
