Islands in Lake Pontchatrain?

Apparently, a chain of islands were considered in Lake Pontchatrain to house waterside hotels and home and resort sites. Those surely would have survived storms. And I thought the Mandeville Mayor's sand beach was a dumb idea.

there was a proposal in the mid/late 1960s to build a new airport on a man-made island in the middle of Lake Ponchatrain...

Would've made it a lot easier to widen.

But, we would lose the only thing we can brag about in this state.

Didn't the Japs do this? As I recall they had to design the building so that it could be jacked up over time as the land settled.

ETA: Yes they did. The Kansai Airport outside of Osaka-

Hong Kong did this without needing to jack up the buildings.

I wonder how water spouts would affect hotels in the middle of the lake.
