OT sleuths I need your help, I have been inundated on Facebook and from others on the harms of babies and kids sitting in a w.
And I’m just wondering if it is a vaccinations causes autism thing or eating lead paint is bad thing.

Life is hard enough when you aren’t pigeon-toed. Don’t let it happen to your kid.

That flyer is so packed with medical language that I have to believe that it is designed to drum up business for them.

I have seen nothing outside of Facebook crap that would lead me to believe that vaccinations cause autism...in fact, I am not sure that anyone really knows what autism is any more.

Of course, your kids should not eat paint chips...

Its a very different creature than 'vaccines cause autism'; indeed, its one of the warning signs that is used to start people on the track of medical diagnosis of the physical manifestation of developmental delays, particularly things like hand dominance, coordination, and gross motor skills.

I think it’s natural for a toddler

It easier to correct at 3/4 instead of 2.

But with children’s short attention span at that age it isn’t as if they sit for very long.

Can’t it cause harm later, yes. But you’d have to force your child to sit like that over a very long period

Both my kids sat like that when they were little. Zero problems as adults.

Just tell your kid to sit “Indian Style” so you can anger all the SJW Hipster brew house owners of NOLA.

Hand dominance typically isn’t until 5-6

But I could see the merit for gross motor skills

Its not an 'Oh my God!' issue; just keep an eye on it. See if it persists, becomes the dominant or default position, and see if its pairing up with other signs of developmental delay.

Particularly in nonverbal, or delayed speech cases, its one of the markers they use to start screening.

It isn’t an issue for a 4-6 year old.

If it correlates with other issues (limp, pigeon-toed, etc.), then they evaluate, but it doesn’t cause those problems.

This is the same situation with vaccines and autism.

Just because something occurs in an individual who either received something or performs a certain act, it doesn’t mean that one causes or is related to the other.

This would be like Scruffy saying, “Well, the patient is walking, therefore, walking causes pigeon-toed walking. We should keep him from walking.”

I often wonder if the next generation will realize how fricking unimportant and absolutely mundane social media is or if they'll be absolutely and totally consumed by it.

My little cousin is 13. She just went on her first week long summer camp with no technology allowed. She said it's the happiest she's been in years and since she got she hasn't been worrying about snap chat streaks and hasn't really check her Facebook or Instagram much at all. She said it feels like she can just take a deep breathe and relax for the first time maybe ever. That made me sadder that I would've guessed. Being confronted with the reality that these kids face.

I hope she has a great summer. And I hope that as soon as school starts back up she doesn't fall back into the meaningless stress and anger social media shackles the youth with.

The real problem is Y sitting.

Later in life that may lead to the addition of MCA sitting.

I visited my parent last week and they had a bunch of old pictures when I was young out in a photo album. Looking back, there were at least 3 pictures of me under 8 yo sitting like this on the floor so no telling how often I sat like this growing up.

I didn't develop any issues listed except maybe some hip discomfort after 40.

Well, you sat like that when you were younger, therefore, any hip discomfort you suffered 40 years later is because of that.

I was born with a twist to one leg. Dr. had Mom do some simple exercises for a few minutes a day for 6 months or so. Teen years I was a Junior Olympic sprinter. Have to say the exercises must've worked.

Don't remember what the exercises were, I was very young then
