No, the answer is that it is a country which is part of The UK. Just watch this explanation. LINK

Not by the traditional definition of the word "country."

I think they do have their own "regional parliament," but ultimately they are governed by the folks in London.

I'm sure it does have its own government but that doesn't really matter. It has its own national soccer team. That's the main criteria.

They are like the scabs of the island of Ireland. Or the Uncle O'Toms of the area. Always sucking up to the boss/the big bully on the block.

In terms of whether or not it constitutes a sovereign nation-state, (which is what you likely mean when you refer to a 'country'), then the answer is no.

The United Kingdom is the sovereign-nation state, and thus umbrella under which the appellative "countries" of Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England are constituent to.

If I remember right, during the Barcelona Olympics a few years ago they kept advertising something like "Catalonia, a country in Spain".

The Greeks have an area within Greece that is called Macedonia so they force the world community to refer to this separate political entity thusly:

Think of the UK like the SEC. In the world cup if you are from Scotland and you get bounced, you have to pull for England or you are not a real fan.

Yes, Northern Ireland is its own country; part of the UK along with England, Scotland, and Wales.

Well Northern Ireland has its own soccer team, which represents Northern Ireland. Not the UK.
