My son's dream is to serve his country in the U.S. military. The only thing between him and his dream is a sexual indiscretion that occurred two years ago. He was diagnosed with genital herpes after a blood test, and an examination by a doctor. My son was prescribed medication for his condition. He suffered one outbreak two years ago, for which he took exactly one pill. He hasn't suffered another outbreak since. His condition is easily treatable, and wouldn't seem to interfere with any military duties he may be given.
His recruiter says his only hope is to get documentation of a misdiagnosis. Is this even possible? Has any one else on this board ever faced this problem and found a solution?
My son is crushed. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Joining the military is the new welfare.

Tell him to get a real job and actually serve. Firefighter, police officer, etc.

Over 50% of Americans have herpes. Some of these people are surely in the military.

Ehhhh

Do you mean 50% of sexually active adults have HPV?

Because

A. That isn't really herpes
B. That's not 50% of all people
