Is getting a permit to install a beam in a load bearing wall hard to do?

Had an engineer calculate how big my laminated beam needs to be. What red tape is involved, how much money will they want from me, and how long will it take just to get the numbers approved?
This is in the city of Central in East Baton Rouge parish.

No clue but I am sure they will want money and some other bullshite.
MY CSB with permits in EBR, went to install a new driveway. Houses on either side have exact same driveways with 12" culverts. EBR Parish says I need a permit, sends a six man survey crew out a month later, wait three months on the "report and permit." Yep, it requires a 12" culvert. ENGINEERING!

Most permitting info/applications can be pulled of the city's website. Work under a certain dollar amount likely won't require a permit.

I don't know about LA, but here you'd need a set of stamped and signed drawings, then present an application showing that you're not changing occupancy, use etc.

I didn't get a permit to MOVE my fence forward 6ft. My neighbors all have fences that are 2-10ft from the sidewalk. I moved mine to 19'6, and the fines + survey costs ended up being around $2k to rebuild a $500 fence. God damn government

I assume this fence was outside your house where it could be seen by the general public.

After looking at the codes for Jefferson Parish, we are even supposed to get a permit to swap toilets. Ridiculous money grab

You need stamped drawings for sure.

You might consider using another product that wouldn't require you to get a permit or consider load-bearing issues.
