Is 'Boujee or Bouge' just the bastardizatuon of 'Bourgeoisie'?

I've seen it on a meme and have heard it pronounced here and there.... had two younger chicks (22ish) sitting at the bar earlier using the word 'boujee' in a sentence several times.
I'm starting to here the word 'Boujee' more and more often. Or spelled 'Bouge'.... anyone else picking up on this? Am I behind the times on this? I mean I know what it means or what the demographics that's using it, thinks it means at least

You can't expect the people who use the word boujee to know how to properly pronounce or spell bourgeoisie.

The word is played enough now that it's sorta being phased out now. I don't really hear anyone use it anymore.

ETA: But I have no idea what it means. Honestly don't know if it's a good or bad thing I sorta thought it meant ghetto...?

Some shitty ghetto slang. Basically means you are picky and want it your way. That is at least my interpretation. Also, ditch those slores now if you know what is good for you.

Nope. I heard the locals in Nola use that term in the late 90s.

I heard Steve Harvey using it in a skit referring to his wife when they went to a ghetto wedding. I took it to mean fancy and not from the skreets.

I was out having drinks with a friend and her friends (and their friends) when I heard this word used a couple of times. As a fairly well read individual it isn't often that I hear a word I don't understand, so I had to ask. I was almost embarrassed to ask because all of these philistines knew the word. Then they gave their definition of the word...

I said "I'm pretty sure you mean bourgeois, correct?" They looked at me like I was crazy. Then one of them googled it. Yes, the slang term is indeed a bastardized use of bourgeois. And yes, my generation is just count hair above retarded.

Yes it's just slang and it's usually used as a joke.

Bouregeoisie means middle class.

According to urban dictionary, boujee means high class, rich, etc.

They are also used by medical personnel

quote:

Bougie: A thin cylinder of rubber, plastic, metal or another material that a physician inserts into or through a body passageway, such as the esophagus, to diagnose or treat a condition. A bougie may be used to widen a passageway, guide another instrument into a passageway, or dislodge an object.

Bougie (pronounced boojhee) means "candle" in French. Ask them why they keep referring to the bourgeois as candles.
