Not unless you can fence it.

2 fold, why wouldn't most high end jewelry stores have a harder type of unbreakable glass.

Second, wouldn't it be easy to cut the shite out of yourself on some of the glass, leaving DNA

People keep pointing out the obvious. Yes, of course you need a way to sell it.

There are ways.

Law enforcement says the people who do this already have a way before they even steal it.

Actually the perfect crime would be one you don't even know about. A smash and grab is about as far from the perfect crime as you can be.

I've often wondered how people get money from stolen jewelry or other precious materials.

Like when people steal gold bars or diamonds like in the movies how do they get money from them? I doubt they just go to the Cash 4 Gold store.

I would say a perfect crime is one that works and has a good risk/reward.

Jewelry is small and expensive. You can fit a million dollars worth in a small bag and snatch it up in 45 seconds and you're gone with no trace.

I guess it depends on the jewelry store you rob. One Jewler I know takes store security very seriously. I'd never think of hitting his store.

Not sure what you'd do with the stuff you sold. There is very little resale market on jewelry.

Well yeah it depends on the store. One store I know of you can't just walk in. You have to be buzzed in. I'm sure there are many like that.

So you can't just storm the place and grab and leave.

unlikely and you ain't getting wholesale prices for stolen jewelry. you're getting like 25% or less of wholesale

moving stolen jewelry isn't exactly easy

There are many YouTube videos of these thieves snatching up around a million dollars worth of jewelry in under a minute.

But you're right about getting less than that when you resell it.

In what way is there a low risk of getting caught? You've got cameras everywhere and then the thieves have to sell the jewelry. Good luck.

Just pointing out one of many reasons why this would not be the "perfect crime" for the average criminal.

you're rarely going to steal enough jewelry from a case that would make an overseas flight +EV

A few guys

The perfect crime isn't technically illegal.

Force the system to evolve, after you have fleeced it.

An even better crime is robbing the guy that just did a smash and grab. That fool is probably only armed with a hammer plus he isn't going to go to the police and report it.

That jewelry is worthless if they have no way to sell it.
Just like with making drugs illegal, that way no people can buy them.

The way to do it would be to be friends with a jeweler and make sure his inventory is insured and have him make sure he only has the minimum amount of security systems insurance may require? I assume they require it. Make sure he displays the expensive stuff. Have a buyer who is willing to play ball in exchange for buying it at 75% normal wholesale cost.

Have a friend intentionally cause a fender bender on the far side of that police jurisdiction. Small town with a small police presence at night is preferable. This buys you a few extra minutes.

Go in and out quick. Sell product. Insurance pays the owner, you kick him back 20%. Game over
