i'm in nashville so take this with a grain of salt.

when it works..its fantastic! LTE here is super fast.

..but if you stray too far out of town or on the backroads forget about it. coverage is terrible.

tmobile pretty much works in most towns & cities (works fine when i'm in monroe) and on the interstate.

however, if you don't know about coverage in your area..beware before considering switching.

Not much I guess...

Did they not just roll out this no-subsidized phone plan rather recently?

Before that, you were either buying your phone outright at an outrageous price or getting one subsidized under contract.

correct. but my initial 2-year contract ended in 2003 and i've been working the loyalty angle with retentions ever since to periodically update my plan without recommitting to a contract.

the bad part of that is that i had to pay an outrageous price for a new phone each time i needed one so i held onto crappy phones forever and this probably explains why i'm tickled pink over these 'no hidden/subsidy fee' $200 phones showing up all over.

in the last couple of years they've rolled out the following

- no subsidized phone plans (which i was already on thanks to retentions) which were cheaper
- no contracts (last year)
- unlimited "everything" this month which is pretty much already what i have ..just get data throttled at 2GB

balance of power has shifted dramatically. i don't think anyone could argue outside of 'drinking the kool-aid and buying into apple's entire ecosystem' that a 5s at $749 is $400+ better than those other phones.

People are doing it right now on a phone that is very dated and in enough quantities that Apple has no reason to change their policy. Watch what happens once they release a big screen phone. Apple won't be hurting in the near future.

You seriously underestimate their kool aid.

Same here. I'm not going to pay a ton of money just to read TD when there's other options that provide the same service.
