I do wonder why they named the new class after Gerald Ford of all people. I don't have anything in particular against him, but they name them after Presidents so they pick the one that sort of ended up there by accident? before Madison or Monroe or Jefferson among others?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the plane that they will fly off of that carrier. It's Iran's first stealth fighter...

He served in the USN during WWII. Other than that, I tend to agree with you. I might have preferred they held off the Reagan name and name the new class after him.
But, I stand with the sailors of the CVA association - the new class (and lead ship) should have been the America.

Someone in a previous thread about carriers posted the suggestion of only using historic aircraft carrier names on rotation. We have 11 CSGs now, and I think their suggestions were (or maybe just should've been):
Wasp
Hornet
Lexington
Enterprise
Yorktown
Essex
Valley Forge
Kitty Hawk
Intrepid
Independence (not a huge fan of this name)
George Washington
