Would be great if executed properly

A group of investors is interested in acquiring the entire block of West Chimes Street between Lake Street and Highland Road, and redeveloping it into some sort of mixed-use development outside the North Gates of the LSU campus. Four individual property owners on the block confirm to Daily Report they have been contacted by real estate agents Walt Ketchings and John Buzzell from NAI/Latter & Blum and asked if they are interested in selling.

That's what I thought when they were redeveloping the shopping center area on State St., where Murphy's, the theater, and the grocery used to be. What they replaced it with was awful.

I'd be cautiously optimistic with this deal.

+1

It'll probably be filled with shitty chains and will likely have a high turnover rate.

I wish a group of investors would acquire all of State Street, instead.

Exactly

Dickson Street in Fayetteville would be a great model to follow

I agree. LSU is the only school I've ever been to that doesn't have nice property surrounding its campus. Time for a face lift.

That's true. It would be a great model to follow. Too bad they'll put an Applebees, Starbucks, KFC, Urban Outfitters, and Pinkberry mixed with extremely expensive apartments there.

If you think BR can do ANY different, you just haven't been paying attention.

Let me dream a little

Tuscaloosa also has a similar layout in a couple areas close to campus.

I would hope not. Hopefully a merchant association would block chains from coming in, set design standards, etc

I know Dat Dog is looking to expand into the Baton Rouge market. This would be a great location

Have you ever been to Knoxville? LSU is doing fine compared to that campus

Meh, I'd rather they leave it as is. It has character, and is better than what they would likely do to it.
