UC report: Sam DuBose shooting 'entirely preventable'

Original story: Body cam captures cop shooting motorist in head, murder charges follow

quote:

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said Officer Ray Tensing "purposely killed" a 43-year-old motorist named Samuel DuBose on July 19. The officer, whom the university said had jurisdiction on the streets adjacent to the school, pulled over the motorist because the vehicle he was driving did not have a front license plate.

According to the tape, the officer asks for the motorist's driver's license and instead is handed a small bottle of booze after a brief back and forth between the two. Suddenly, the officer yells "stop" and shoots the man in the head after the motorist begins making a getaway in the car, according to the tape. The vehicle then crashes into a pole up the street.

According to a tape of his radio call to dispatch, the officer yells "shots fired, shots fired."

"I almost got run over by the car," he said. "He took off on me. I discharged one round. Shot the man in the head."

A university officer who got to the scene immediately after the shooting wrote in his report that Tensing said "he was being dragged by the vehicle and had to fire his weapon." Another officer said he had witnessed Tensing being dragged.

But Deters, the county prosecutor, told the news conference that Tensing's account of the incident was fabricated.

According to Dubose I guess the new standard of policing is, let them run and maybe catch them on another day.
Or maybe the standard should to avoid shooting somebody in the face. Maybe that's too high of a standard though.

When cop tells you to stop, you freaking stop. You don't crank your car and hit the gas.
Sure. But that is not justification to shoot somebody in the face.

I know your shtick though; you will argue for the officer's actions no matter how unwarranted they may be. So troll away.

Then the cop gets fired/ blamed for not doing enough if he lets the drunk criminal go and he runs somebody over...

He got shot THEN dragged the officer. Of course, the order of events doesn't matter to your trolling.

unfortunately for you, you know I'm right. You know that Dubose would be still alive had he just done what the officer said. When you drag an officer about 20 feet down the street, you might get shot. Comply and survive.

Pay close attention to objects in the foreground and other objects in and to the side of the roadway.
Yep I did. Cop sticks his body in car; loses composure and shoots guy in face; car proceeds to drive down road with a lifeless driver. What great decision-making the officer displayed; kill a man AND cause a car to lose control.

Dead men can also steer and avoid cars that are about 40 feet in front of them.
No, but if the wheel was turned prior to being shot, if the alignment already caused it to go left, and/or if the body caused the wheels to turn, it can go another direction other than straight.

Obviously the driver should have complied. Most reasonable people would.

However, failure to comply does not authorize an immediate execution to be carried out by the officer.

Life was not in danger no reason to shoot him in the head

If they are dragging the cop and he is afraid he is going to die it is.

But we'll just ignore that the suspect had no front license plate, no Drivers license, career criminal, and 2 lbs of weed in the car.

Dude, that doesn't warrant a bullet to the brain and you know it.
