Anyone else getting shafted by their insurance company? I just got back word that after my deductible and other deductions for depreciation, I'm getting a nice $700 check for my $20,000+ in damage...

If you are paying a hurricane deductible there should be no hold backs for depreciation.

Can you elaborate more on that?

I second the recoverable depreciation comment

Do you have a replacement cost endorsement?

I still haven't been able to talk to anyone. Saw my adjuster then nothing

If you are paying a hurricane deductible there should be no hold backs for depreciation.
And even if you have replacement cost coverage, they still often hold back recoverable depreciation that you recoup later as you complete repairs and turn in receipts.
ETA: To OP, did you have a really big hurricane deductible or did the adjuster's estimate just lowball or miss a bunch of stuff? If the latter, then you can dispute it with your insurer. Get estimates from contractors and send them to your adjuster to request approval on.

How much is your deductible? do you have recoverable depreciation on your policy? If you have recoverable depreciation, you will get that withheld money back when repairs are completed.

Congratulation and welcome to the insurance scam.

Usually, and for most of my customers, they are not holding back deprecation at this time. This is only during significant weather events where there is lots of damaged property.
Have had multiple insureds get paid RC value without any holdbacks for deprecation. But then again, I do not represent sheisty and shitty State farm or other direct writers.

Everybody I know has had depreciation cost included..some are recoverable and some not. That's with a good number of different companies.

At least you got something from yours. My field adjuster didn't come out until 9/26, and all I get are calls saying they have reviewed everything and will be sending me a settlement offer soon. By the way, can you also send us xxx, which the adjuster already has we just want to ask for it again.

Let’s see the breakdown here, how much is your deductible and how much recoverable depreciation withheld?
There isn’t a whole lot of info in this OP.

In my opinion lots of low balling and "that was there before" type scenarios. Already looking at having someone private come out and see the disparities.

i have a feeling this is part of OP's story he's not aware of.
