We had a store about 2 miles from my house and the old man who ran it had boxing gloves and encouraged us to beat the shite out of one another by giving the winner a coke LOL.

During fireworks season, we would often have punk wars. We would get a shitload of firework punks for free and shoot at each other from our air rifles. They fit perfect and would haul arse coming out an air rifle.

We would would also light the ends of them before firing. How we never started a fire, put out some eyes, or got seriously burned, I'll never know.

you could throw in some hide-and-go-seek that covered about ten yards. Mostly played at night.

Had a bunch of 7/8 years olds at my house for my youngest's birthday party, do you know how much fun they had playing hide and go seek with flashlights? Played it til midnight.
They still talk about it a year later.

the Old Days

Played organized school football on Friday nights then met at a vacant lot on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to play full contact (no pads or equipment) football.

clam shell were used. for road base. the right shape could sail a long ways to the enemy.

Wars were over when the street lights came on and folks went home for dinner

left pinky finger is still bent from a BB gun war 65 years ago.

Each group claimed a pile of earth and violent chaos ensued. Blood was drawn and tears were shed. Occasionally Badeaux or Butler would shoot a pellet at you just to keep you aware that being a pussy was not an option. Spitale would wander up and both teams would train our best throws on him and he’d laugh and run to whatever side I was on. Shea would stand on the top and beg you to throw at him and then laugh at you as he karate kicked your dome. Badeaux usually ended up as King of The hill and we were good with that natural hierarchy. Then Spillman ( RIP ) would explain to us how babies were made and Day Day would beg us to see an old Playboy.

Then we’d play baseball and football for 6 hours and hunt for snakes.

If you know this childhood , you know.

How old are you? Change the last names and this is my exact childhood circa 1978-83. Damn good times

Bottle rocket wars were the best. We'd form teams, then light BRs and toss them at the other side. The final year we did it, I found a three foot aluminum tube. We could light the BR in the tube and aim it like a bazooka. It was 4th of July, so a bunch of us were shirtless. The tube/bazooka was much more accurate. We hit one of my friends in his bare chest with a shot. It blew just as it hit him, and left him with a burn that looked like a third tit. We all thought it was hilarious, including him after the burning subsided. (Lord knows if he'd got hit in the eye ) Yeah, those were the days.

The stick of the bottle rocket fit perfectly down the BB gun barrel, almost by design. We would put the bottle rocket stick down the BB gun barrel, leave the fuse out the side for easy lighting, and use it as a shoulder mounted rocket launcher for preteen boys.

We also had BB gun wars but used rice instead of bb’s. The rice would detonate into a fine dust on impact in an early form of paintball. Hurt like hell, left a huge bruise, and there was never a doubt when you hit someone.
