If I search for something on my phone, work computer, or home laptop then it shows up everywhere because I am signed in with my Gmail account on all 3 devices. You can go into your Gmail account under settings and delete your history. It's there somewhere, although Google strongly asks if it is something that you really want to do.
It's really kind of creepy that I can search for something on my phone then get on my laptop and the autocomplete suggestions will be related to what I just searched for.

Gmail is not your friend. If you're signed in on it, it shares all kinds of crap with other phones on your account, such as photos and etc. I wasn't up to anything sketchy, but it happened.

Personally I'm not too worried about it, but it is kind of crazy the information that they keep track of.
For OP this only relates to search histories. If it was just a link that you were sent, and you went directly to the page then I don't think it would be shared between devices.

Depending on the browser and account it will log on al devices. Google Chrome for example, if you use it on your phone, everything you do will reflect onto your Chrome account on your desktop. History, bookmarks, saved logins, etc.
Addition: Smartphones will do the same if you have compatible devices like an iPhone & MacBook Pro. They are linked to the same account most likely.

I clear search history every couple hours, otherwise b brings up bukkake, j Japanese bukake, e extreme Japanese bukkake
