My grandfather is at death's door, unexpectedly. Prayers requested? I'm not the type to do this, but this guy taught me to throw a curveball.

You and your family have my thoughts and prayers.

Death is only a stepping point to something greater and you and your family should make it a point to celebrate the long life he had and honor his memory.

Just know that sooner or later, your grandfather will be in paradise surrounded by nothing but the presence of God's sunlight and warmth and he will be a very very happy and joyful man.

My last grandparent (mom's mom)is on her deathbed right now. Slowly dying in the hospital. Her intestines are nearly dead. Her kidneys are about the only thing working. She is on morphine but stays in a ton of pain. She will most likely be gone before I get home from offshore so I went see her before I came to work while she was still able to speak.

What was tough was seeing her hold on. She is fighting to stay alive but a few weeks ago the doctor gave her the inevitable. She wanted to go home but I dont think she can make the ambulance ride. I visited her in the hospital as often as I could before I came to work. She wasnt very talkative but she appreciated me going. Its a waiting game for my mom/dad and family and really it shouldnt be. As cold as some might say it is, I dont see why doctors cant put patients to sleep like vets do pets, when they get to the stage where life is leaving and there is no turning back. It sucks.

It takes its toll on the whole family who stays with her day and night.

Sorry about your grandfather. When I lost my grandfather years ago, that was hard because we were extremely close. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Agreed!

Why is it we can be humane to animals but we can not be humane to humans?

Focus on the time you spent with him. My grandfather passed away when I was 2 years old. I wish that I had a chance to talk to him when I was older. I got a lot of old photos of him from my grandmother and I've done a lot of research into his military service in Korea. I would give anything to get his story straight from him.

You're lucky that you had time with your grandfather. It's always difficult to lose someone you love but at least you'll have those years to look back on.

Do you really expect people to get on their knees and pray for a man they never knew, or is it simply a catharsis to share your struggles with others?

There are 7 billion people on this world, and 103 die every minute.

How, in your estimation, was my title indicative of an "expectation?"

To everyone that offered their thoughts/prayers - thank you! Just got word that he is stable. Not out of woods but when I talked to my grandmother last night it did not sound promising at all.

"It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgement"

There is no denying that we all will die at some point in time. It is amazing how little thought most
people put into what is going to happen to them when they die.

What do you think is going to happen to YOU when you die?
