They don't work, and they haven't worked.

Is it really taking over or is it taking over because we’re told about every single case making us think it’s taking over?

3,700 people die in car wrecks every year in Texas. That’s 10 people every day.

If you were told every night 10 people died in car wrecks that day you’d have the same Corona-freaks screaming about shutting down driving for two weeks.

I don't get it either. California, and, inexplicably, many people who live there, has been one of the loudest states about mandates and shutdowns. They were one of the first states to have a statewide mask mandate, but their numbers never improved. They shut down or greatly limited a wide swath of businesses, but their numbers continued to rise. They've doubled down on their efforts, but their numbers have....you guessed it, continued to rise.

Yet, many people in that state still feel stronger governmental measures of control are needed. They completely ignore the fact that the mandates have done little to slow the spread.

It is very similar to how the media props up New York state and their piece of shite governor as the gold standard of Covid response while simultaneously shitting on Florida. The two state's overall numbers are fairly similar, but NY has ~16K more deaths. Yet, DeSantis is evil and Cuomo is writing fricking books and winning bullshite awards. Insanity. All of it.

Because there is 15 million people in California ignoring the regulations, regulations don’t work when 30-50% of the population thinks they are dumb and don’t follow them.

Politicians, especially liberal ones, never learn Coach John Wooden’s great adage—don’t mistake activity for achievement.

Politicians see a problem and they immediately think they must do something without realizing that sometimes the best course of action is to do nothing.

Because tyrants love regulations and control particularly when they don't work. This way, they can implement more regulations and control.

The regulations work when everyone is 100% willing to follow them (i.e. Australia).

If everyone isn't 100% willing to follow them, then they just unnecessarily cripple the economy while not curbing coronavirus.

I live in the Baay area and this is not true here. Except for maybe the ghettos in Oakland and some of the homeless in San Fran the vast majority of people are wearing masks everywhere. All restaurants and bars are shut down. Its dead.

The only place that crowds can be found are in grocery stores, Costco, places like that. Whats next shut them down and starve everyone into compliance?

Friend,

You are precisely correct. America has never truly shut down or implemented a real lockdown. I have been to California three times since June, and there was few signs of lockdown. Restaurants this Fall were bursting in the streets with people drinking and carrying on. Parks were full of people not socially distancing and grocery stores were plenty full. Churches, sadly, were shut, and airports were empty, but there was plenty of opportunity for a respiratory virus to spread. I have also been to Florida, the supposed beacon of "how to do covid." I saw very few differences in how crowded restaurants and grocery stores were between the two states.

Of course, there are many people here, most of whom have not been to California this year, who will tell you that California is locked down like Taiwan, but that's ridiculous. Lockdowns in America probably will never work because Americans value the ability to do what they want more than any other value. True shutdowns, like what you see in Taiwan, whose 25 million population has only seen seven covid deaths, do work. But to do a real and true shutdown is to take actions that 95% Americans are not willing to do. Some would argue that covid is a virus that does not warrant a true shutdown. But make no mistake: if you implement a real shutdown, you cut off modes of transmission for all respiratory viruses. Again, then the real debate is, Is the treatment worse than the disease?

Yours,
TulaneLSU
