or ethnicity, what would be the effect on race relations? Positive, negative, neutral? Why?

I'm of the mind that highlighting differences is a political/special interest tool to divide. I can foresee only a long-term improvement (after a short-term backlash from those who benefit from current race data collection).

(Keep in mind, this is not a question as to whether or not this COULD ever happen, but a WHAT IF it did happen.)

So we can disregard who populates the vast majority of our prison system?

you are completely correct.

they highlight the race to keep score. you negate the collection, you will see less drama.

Or more accurately ignoring evidence is a way to claim that divisions don't exist.

Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away.

Race relations are based on overall trust.
Whites don't trust blacks because of perceived crime, etc.
Blacks don't trust whites because of perceived unfair treatment, etc.

I don't know anybody whose views would differ if no data were collected. Simply watch the news, listen to "friends".

If we are keeping it real, the white male is the most alpha mammal on the planet, and the USA and its government is his most fertile hunting grounds. Would be bad news for minorities and women if the gov pulled back like the OP described.

It's absolutely necessary if we are ever going to get to a place where people are just people, not white people, black people, Hispanic people, etc/

That's not saying that different people are different, or that we should recognize/respect those differences, but the differences are not simply about the color of our skin, or our heritage, or our intelligence, or our socia class, or gender, or sexual orientation, or any other single factor.

Furthermore, race classifications have gotten so blurred that they are practically meaningless, that is unless you are a race hustler trying to take advantage of the notion of victim class.

Just describe the color of his skin. Maybe we need to work on our collective vocabulary on this.

Skin colors:

Previously lumped together as black: coffee, caramel, dark tan, ebony, cafe-au-lait

Previously lumped together as white: light tan, fair, ruddy, reddish, dark tan, etc.

which is why it ain't happening any time soon

The party that stamps their feet and sits down when they don't get their way has race pimping as the major tool in their toolbox.

Discontinuing the collection of data does nothing unless they discontinue acting on the basis of that data. We cannot end discrimination based on race until we actually stop discriminating based on race.

Well, that's the point. It would be tough to make programs, legislation, etc. based on race if you don't have that data to work with.

I think the facts bear out the perception. Gov't numbers indicate 13% of the population commit 36% of all major crimes. Do you think the public doesn't see this? This is a case where perception is reality.

This is one of the places where the perception is born out. Every evening on the news are pictures of those that have committed major crimes. Every evening 3/4+ of the faces are black.

Doesn't that then become a socio-economic issue instead of a racial/ethnic issue, though?

Agreed! Discontinuing the collection of data will not eliminate the lack of black people not becoming part of the rest of society. Some individuals join in but the part that wants to maintain the "black culture" and the "black community" will follow the likes of unelected officials such as J.J., A.S., etc. ... oh, and don't forget the head racebaiter, Obomba.

But what would "racebaiters" cling to? What would be their end game at that point?
