I think someone is using my medical insurance. Is this a thing?

Several months ago I was sent a summary of benefits that included a number of things I haven't had done. I notified my insurer and they said they'd get to the bottom of it. We're not talking a single visit that was a mistake, more like 15 or so billable events including a CT Scan and an MRI at different hospitals with different doctors. Up till now, insurance has covered all of this but I'm now getting bills for out of network tests. I expect a call from my insurer and multiple doctor's early this week but I'm concerned because it seems someone is using my personal information to get these benefits and the bills could eventually hit my credit if I don't deal with this in a timely manner.
I'm sure I can get this resolved fairly easily but I am curious if anyone has heard of this before? Is it possible that there's just a colossal number of mistakes either at the provider level or at the insurer, BCBS?

Why didn't you notify them when you first saw something out of the ordinary? Why wait until something isn't being covered?

Identity theft. Check your credit card and bank account too.

I would bet that it is either some business pulling some insurance fraud or just flat out billing frickups...both happen pretty frequently.
if you are getting bills for things you haven't had done, that is just flat unacceptable.
another thing that I would worry about is that lots of insurances have a max lifetime benefit of a million or two dollars...heaven forbid that you ever get to that, but at that point likely too much time has elapsed to reverse any of it and you may run out of benefits.
my guess would be that one of your health care providers is dropping shite on your insurance that you have not received.

Did you not read the sentence before that? I specifically said that I notified my carrier.

Yeah, that has been on my mind since I noticed this was happening. Nothing I can see is unusual with my credit. There are no new inquiries or new accounts but I'm going to continue being vigilant monitoring my credit.

Last year somehow Bluecross screwed up and added my wife to someone else's account because they had a similar name, even though they were in another state. No idea how they fricked that up but yea, they def could have screwed up.

I'm thinking this is what happened but its hard for me to imagine that the problem persists after notifying Blue Cross months ago and so many visits, procedures, and doctors since.
