Ex Big 4 right here. KPMG is by far the shittiest of the 4, worse clients, resources, and talent.

It varies by city/office usually.

Also, depends on which clients/industries you get to work with.

I mean at one time AA had Enron which was a sought after client lol

I'm more concerned with work life balance than any of that.

I've heard that the shitty hours are standard across the 4 and there isnt much differentiation. Just looking for some personal accounts. Were you at KPMG?

Same, except it was still the Big 6 when I was in that industry.

Here's 25 days paid vacation. But make sure you bill out 2000 hours a year.

Be ready to work 50-60s Jan thru Apr

I find your experience in Big 4 can vary widely geographically. Different markets have the "best" Big 4 based on the local office culture.

It's a challenging job in that most of the days and nights are spent in front of your computer for hours on end but if you're willing to work hard and network both internally and externally, you will come to thoroughly enjoy the experience (just my opinion - obviously this doesn't reflect how everyone feels).

Also, the firm benefits (at least at EY) are fantastic. Medical coverage, $1,000 per year 'Health & Wellness' benefit, Marriage and Legal counsel (OT divorcees, looking at you), etc. They also pay for Phone bill, internet service, etc.

If you're looking for work life balance go with a regional or local firm. I worked at both Grant and BDO and I was working more like 65-75/wk Jan through May. And they aren't even Big 4.

Big 4 usually had shorter busy season due to most if their client being accelerated filers, and my buddy was pulling close to 80 at PWC, but usually ended after March.

I've heard more like 65-80 hours, but maybe those are just horror stories. 50-60 doesn't sound great, but it's a big difference than an extra 10-20 hours.

Again, depends on your client. Friend of mine was on a huge, huge audit. They were typically done by last week of February. Yes, it sucks, but it's like 7 weeks and outside of quarter filings they were pretty relaxed on butts in seats and shite like that

Only The large accelerated filters i mentioned. They have 45 days to file and then they have to archive they file which usuallytakes a week or so to close down comments etc. Non accelerated 60 days after ye to file. If you're on one of those you're definitelyin busy season until end of March. All other SEC filters (e.g. SRCs) have 90 days after y/e to file. Those will keep you through April with Q1 review also happening around that time, but they are typically not big 4 clients. Usually other global firms and larger regional are doing those.

Either way, as I said BIG 4 usually has shorter busy seasons due to the SEC deadline BUT they work closer to 80 hrs a week for at least 2 months of the year.

BDO and Grant both ended about starting June and as I said, was more like 65-75. I did do 93 hrs one week for a first year integrated audit the week of signing. It sucked dick.
