Was playing in a men’s 32 and older lacrosse league and POP, there went my Achilles. Didn’t feel a ton of pain, just like a somebody hit me in the back of the leg but I couldn’t step on it. Just got back from the hospital where they confirmed the complete rupture. Doctor will talk to me tomorrow about options but looks like surgery. I’m hearing bad things about recovery. It isn’t super painful but feels like I have a permanent Charlie horse in my calf.

Anybody know what to expect for recovery and surgery?

Update: surgery tomorrow, 6 weeks until I can even start rehab and then he said it would be close to 9-12 months to be back to full strength.

It's a long recovery, 8 months are better. Good luck.

It depends. At worst you will need a leg replacement

Schedule surgery at earliest opportunity. Bust arse during PT afterwards. I had a buddy that did a similar thing and tore his Achilles playing in a men's soccer league. It was a few years ago and he said his leg still isn't right.

Better opt in with your player option for another year with the Warriors while you rehab.

Also, stop making fake TD accounts KD.

Recovery will be more painful. And will take awhile, especially at 30+. 6 months or so, given you don’t have any complications.

In short:

Re-attach (the charlie horses inside of the cast SUCKED arse!!!
Post op = a week in bandages
Cast #1 = 3 weeks
Cast #2 = 3 weeks
Walking boot for 3 to 4 months or so

Strengthen through therapy (3 to 4 months...minimum). Basically, you have to learn to walk again.

This will pass, but you are looking at 9 months to a year.

Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery.

On another note, as,I understand it, where you tore it is important.

Oh, and count yourself lucky on the pain. I tore mine about 3 inches above the heal and it sounded like a pop gun. It hurt like hell. I'm glad to hear you avoided that as,I wouldn't wish that pain on anybody.
