I'm convinced that people that disliked LucasP almost certainly got caught in of his shtik a few times without knowing it and looking foolish. I admit, I got caught in that tarbaby early on with him and realized too late. Eventually I came to see the guy as actually a quality poster that added some levity and wit to the board and made great points about things by pointing out the absurdity of the other side.
Or...as the admins apparently thought, just a twat.
