As it turns out, doubling the size of the workday reduces the timeline of the project....unless they hired whoever did the LA42 widening to do this.

But I think they are getting contractors from Texas.

“It does a number of critical factors that we believe are important. It takes the project down from eight-plus years down to four-plus years in terms of the length of construction for that segment,” DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson said Monday.

FIFY.

It's a huge undertaking to widen an elevated freeway through a populated urban area with very limited space that requires at least some expropriation of poorly maintained (but potentially historic) homes in minority neighborhoods. It will probably be the the last project of its kind in Louisiana. It's probably going to eventually be easier politically just to knock down neighborhoods in the suburbs and build a loop.

Let's not act like Texas contractors are the be all end all.

A contractor from Texas completely fricked up the I10 job in front of the Mall of La and Boh Bros ended up taking it over and finishing.

Which means 32 years instead of forever.

Meh, it’s Louisiana. They’ll probably have one guy out there at one location tying rebar together and call that 24/7 operations.

Although the contractor on the I10 widening project in Breaux Bridge has been pretty good about working if the weather was good. So maybe not.

It is needed but it's going to be painful for a long time.

Anyone who's optimistic about road projects in Louisiana hasn't lived here very long or is too young to know any better.

The only thing that could save us from traffic hell is a loop around BR to get rid of truckers and through traffic. This project is just spitting in the wind.

It will never be ready in time or on budget.

Anyone can play with numbers on paper.
It'll be 8 and then some.

Until the humid, sweaty summer months hit and the crew slows down to an ant's crawl.

I have no clue where, how, or when I-49 will progress through Lafayette at this point.
