A couple of times a week my job requires I travel from God's country Round Rock to Fort Hood. US 190 in the center of Killeen has been complete for 2 months now. However the speed limit signs are still up. This leaves me in the uncomfortable position seeing absolutely zero evidence of construction remaining yet the speed limit is 55mph. I usually just say frick it and drive 65, but it's always an uneasy feeling.

Does your state's statutes require workers to be present?

Agreed. If they want people to take them seriously, and we should, don't leave the 45 signs up for weeks after the work is done.

Folks will eventually start ignoring them. Boy who cried wolf situation.

Yep, huge pet peeve of mine as well. If there isn't any construction that I can see, I ignore. Id hope a cop wouldn't pull you over because there shouldn't be reduced speed limits if there's no construction and any cones, barrels, etc are all off to the side of the road

The other thing that gets me is when someone's holding up a "slow" sign, then wave you through frantically as if you're the one holding up traffic

Are you 100% certain that the project is actually complete? From experience, I can tell you that just because the heavy machinery and workers are not present doesn't necessarily mean it is complete. There may still be minor items to finish up on. It makes no sense to change the signs and have to change them back each time a crew has to get out there. Maybe there are still some safety items that you are unaware of that need to be constructed.

That's a dumb question to ask of an OT poster.

I got a ticket in one such speed zone in LA one time. When I bitched about it still being a reduced speed construction zone a month or so after the road was complete the cop told me the law required it to stay like that for x number of weeks after completion of the road. Don't know if that is true in your case, or true at all, but that is what the pig told me.

As with most all comments from the general public concerning highway construction, you have no clue what you are talking about. TxDOT decides when the signs get pulled. If TxDOT has not directed them to be pulled, it means the project has not been accepted and there is quite likely work remaining. Ignore the signs and you have coming what you deserve.

2 months after the fact all I can see that remains from the construction is less than a dozen orange cones with no rhyme or reason toppled over in the median and no workers found for months. This is a great revenue boosting speed trap is why they have it up.

I will give you a small example of work that might be remaining. TxDOT will not accept a project until vegetation is established well enough to control erosion. There may be a truck watering the grass a few hours a day you never see. Those signs must be up with any worker present for any length of time. If not, some frickstick speeding through the project will have a wreck and sue the shite out of everybody.

The entity responsible for the signs and the entity "generating" revenue are not the same. It only generates revenue if you do not obey.

As with most all comments from the general public concerning highway construction, you have no clue what you are talking about.

Call the TxDOT area office in Belton, ask them why the signs have not been pulled, and complain if you would like. At least you will be properly informed at that point.

It's in punchlist phase. Which can take months. Which is why the signs are still there. Which is why do what the signs say until they are taken down.
