Think it has a lot to do with this. Mods and admins on just about every other big forum out there are power trippy and have a need to helicopter their e-peen around. We have an upvote/downvote system that's basically just for show, it doesn't banish threads and posts to the bottom and the layout is user friendly for the most part.
The search function of the site could be better, that's about my only complaint.
