I hired a guy at my old house to mount my tv and run the wires through the wall. I can't get ahold of him again. His company was called Bayou Satellite.

Anyhow, I'm trying to do it myself at my new place and struggling. I can't figure out how to properly guide the wires from the side, through the wall to above the (gas) fireplace.

Anyone in the South BR area for hire on this? Any tips or suggestions?

UPDATE : I DIY'd the shite out of it

I got a holesaw and drilled holes on both ends. Then I used a glow stick to feed up and through and was able to catch the glow stick above the mantle. Used it to pull the wires through.

I would post completed pics, but the only comments will be about how my TV is too small

You don't run the wires up. You start at the top and drop a string down and then snag the string and pull it over to where your wires are. Then you tie or tape your wires to the string and pull them up. Go to Home Depot and get a "fishing rod" which is an extendable rod with a hook on the end to help with this.

post a pic, I've used plastic ribbed "conduit" similar to what is used to bundle wires in boats, it's ribbed, flexible and is cut along the side to insert the wires/cables. you can get it at hd

This.
Also, hope there aren't any cross members in the wall that will thwart your attempt to fish said wires.....

That might be tricky with at least one stud to get through I'd imagine. May be easier to go straight up into the attic and then come back down the front of the chimney.

That looks just like my last house. It was easy because you can go down into the area behind the the wall and above the fireplace. I had to use a ladder to go down from the attic. I was able to drill a hole straight from the cabinet through the wall into that area. Went through cabinet and then the drywall but wasn't bad. After that just went behind wall and threaded wires through.

Cut a hole in the side wall where the built in is and cut a hole above the fireplace where you want the wires to come out. Use a fish tape and pull some string from one hole to the other.

Tie wires to string and pull from one side to the other. It is probably pretty hollow in the space above the fireplace so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

You can buy remodel(pop in) electrical/AV boxes from your local home improvement store.

go up to the attic and cross the stud and go back down

ETA more I look a it, I bet that space is hollow as well. Cut holes in drywall in both places and you can probably just use a fish tape to get the wires over there. That looks like a piece of cake.

That's just like my setup but reversed. Lucky for the previous homeowner has a pull wire in place for me. The pull wire runs straight from the side wall to behind the tv. How he got it in there I have no idea.

I tried the attic but the area is sealed off by sheetrock. I think going from the top of the cabinet is the trick.

Also whats the best way to find the studs? Just tapping and listening for the hallow or shallow sound?

How to mount TV and hide the wires W/ Pics

Step 1. Find stuns.
Step 2. Drill TV mount to stuns.
Step 3. drill 3-5" diameter hole behind where TV is mounted.
Step 4. Feed power and hdmi cables through aforementioned hole
Step 5. Drill another hole where entertainment center is (Near a power source).
Step 6. Hook everything up.

You might have a stud that you would have to go through.

Good luck with this approach.

Always this a-hole. There's a bit of carpentry involved here. Does that fall under "tech"? Or should he ask that here and the other details on the tech board? It can sometimes get confusing as to how to please the board police.
