How often do you have a nightmare(s)?

I often go for months without even dreaming anything that I can remember. However, for the last three nights I've had very vivid nightmares. They've been completely different each time, too. Any idea what could be causing this?

I had a nightmare this weekend that I murdered a coworker and my neighbor and shipped their bodies to an old apartment complex I lived in. I woke up thinking it was real for like 10 seconds,
eta: it was in self defense, but I doubt that would've held up in nightmare court

I'm the opposite way. It is a rare occasion that I don't dream every night. And almost all of the time I can remember most of it. Not nightmares every night though, just very vivid dreams. I usually know I'm dreaming though in the middle of it and find a way to influence things to my own liking.

not since I was a child
I realized monster movies set them off, so the solution was, stop the monster movies
haven't had one since
I've since seen some monster/scare type movies, but I do nnot enjoy and just change the channel

I usually have them if I'm really stressed or if I haven't slept for a few days. It's especially bad if I haven't slept for a few days because then the nightmare causes me not to sleep.

I'll have about 2-3 a month. Usually depends on what I read or watch before falling asleep.

How often do you go multiple days without sleeping?

That's me. I'll wake up and know that I was dreaming something but I can't remember what it was. Sometimes I even realize that I'm in a dream and I realize that I wake myself up from the dream... then when I'm awake I don't remember what it was.

You taking malaria pills? When I was deployed to Africa they had us taking pills to prevent malaria. I was having some fricked up dreams to the point where I couldn't sleep. I found out it was a side effect of the pills and I quit taking them. The dreams stopped immediately.
You taking any kind of medication?

I can promise you that going to sleep sober isn't the cause.

I have maybe 1 dream a month and maybe one nightmare every other month. I can never tell if it is real or not and most of the time it is vivid, just not many details. For example: there may be walls, but I don't see any specifics to them, meanwhile I'll have a very real lamp of furniture or whatever in front of me.
My last nightmare I had i was drowning and I woke up with a mouthful of my saliva and slightly choking.

Maybe once a month or so. I've been getting them a lot lately because finals are coming up soon. Outside of situations like this, they're pretty few and far in between.
There's lots of triggers for them. Just try to think if you've been doing anything different or have some added stress within the last few days.

Sunday night I had a nightmare that I caused a terrible wreck on I-10 right after the Mobile Bayway
Last night's dream, I was watching a wind surfer and something went bad wrong and he was carried very high in the air and came down hard and was impaled in the throat and bled out basically in front of me
I woke up with my heart beating out of my chest and my jaw 'on the floor'

A couple Xanax before bed will cure that.

Supposedly everyone dreams once they reach REM sleep, it's just whether it not you remember it. I think the quality of sleep determines whether you can recall it-- the better you sleep, the harder it is to remember, and vice versa. So if I can vividly recall a dream, I know I slept like shite the night before .
I dream to where I can remember it about every 10 days, and it's a nightmare about every 4-5 weeks or so-- usually coinciding with higher stress days.
The worst is when I realize I'm having a nightmare, so I get myself to "wake up" in the dream, and after what seems like 10-15 minutes of normalcy, whatever was going on continues, and I realize I'm still not awake. Not as bad as sleep paralysis, but still disconcerting bc it seems pretty real.
