Why the hell do I need a password with

8 characters
Upper and Lower case
At least 1 number
At least 1 symbol
Can't be the same as a PW within the last 5 years
Can't contain series of #'s from social, phone, or address
Mandatory to change it every so many weeks

All to log in to pay a damn utility bill.

I wish all the apps had the finger print option. The note in my phone contains about 17 different passwords.

Are there any trustworthy apps or sites that provide random password generators that will store/login for you?

Because if you give people the option to chose 1234, they will. If you give them the option to use only letters they'll go with password. If you tell them it has to be changed once every 3 months without stipulations, they'll go from 0000 to 1111.

It's a good thing to force people to do this. You should be thanking your utility provider.

I don't know about passwords, but my atm pin is the price of a cheese pizza and large soda at Panucci's Pizza, where I used to work.

That's just as bad. Get a program like keypass or password safe.

I guess my question is, at what point do we have too many accounts/services/logins all with their own set of rules where it becomes necessary to write down or log all of your passwords? Having all of your passwords stored in one place seems to be counter productive.

If you want the simplicity and access of online accounts, then each requires a password. That's what people want. It's why keypass/password safe/etc. exist.

If you've written them down, yes. If they're in a protected/encrypted document or program you can access easily, then no.

If they have one password, good chance they can guess them all. If they have that password, they can contact the provider for your address and other personal info which can lead to other thefts.

When I got my first debit card they assigned a random pin to me and I have used that for any PIN I have needed since then. I probably have a hundred passwords but I use Apple products and Keychain autofills them for me no matter what device I am using so there is no need to remember what I used.
