I've gone ~5 days without seeing another human being while camping.

That is pathetic.

Why? We're social creatures. And I love to learn and interact with people. Going without talking to someone for weeks on end will drive almost anyone insane. The only people I can't think of this being the case are highly, highly introverted people, and they're insane from the start.

Yeah, I bounced around the country and the world for a while. I got a good grasp on how long I can go without human interaction. I'd just go to bars to interact with people so I could cope. Anyone who says they can go longer than a week without cracking is either ignorant or already insane, especially if you take the internet out of the equation.

It makes me edgy to imagine. I can go a long time with no face to face interaction, but my friends & I text all day everyday. So basic. And I like the internet.

You're right that without human interaction people will eventually go a bit nutty because we are social animals, but a week ain't shite.

Without the internet, Peazey, I think you'd be surprised how quickly you'd go insane. It is absolutely social interaction, which I think undermines the OPs original question really. I don't think anyone here would last 3 weeks with no social interaction, and that includes TV.

So, a week alone comfortably makes one insane or broken? I think you might be a bit skewed in the other direction of "normal". I get irritated if I don't have at least one day a week worth of limited interaction.

I would pay to take that challenge.

If I could have internet, movies, tv, video games, etc plus all the food I need, I could probably go the rest of my life.

3 weeks for sure insane. 1 week will certainly get to almost anybody. I don't think many people have any idea what one week truly alone is like. We are connected at all times in this day and age. Be it phones, tv, or the internet. We are more connected than anyone realizes. You cut that off, then people will feel quickly as if a part of them is as well. Without social interaction, you are cut off from a part of yourself more so than you are from others. That is what will get to you first.

And you would come out broken. Save one or two weirdos that have crossed my path, I can't think of anyone I know who could survive it as the same person. Most people get highly anxious when they're surrounded by their own friends when their iPhone runs out of juice.

And by no social interaction, here's what I mean: no talking to others, no phones, no internet, no tv, no movies, no video games, no books. Books are also in that realm of social interaction whether you realize it or not. Just you and your mind in isolation is what I have in mind. I don't think anyone here could last a month with that.

I won't debate the fact that humans are social animals in nature. 'Cause it's obviously true. I'm sure a substantially longer stretch of time would take its toll on me.

However, you strike me as a gregarious type of guy. That kind of frequency of interacting with others all the time mentally wears me out maybe in a way that solitude might wear on you?
