That place is an absolute dump and is dying a slow death. It's basically an eye sore.

Who still goes there? What's the inside like now?

I give it five years at most. I don't see how they survive much longer with YMCA, LA Fitness, and Planet Fitness.

Never. They have their crowd, low overhead, and history. I don't think those people would wanna ever go anywhere else.

It's like George's on Highland. The food is bland and taste like shite, but they have their loyal clientele of blue hairs that keep the books in the black.

Good lord I used to hit that place hard in the late 90s and early 2000s- long before the days of the Y, Planet Fitness, or "no contract" memberships. It was jam packed with members. I drove by it a few months ago and thought the same thing as the OP. That neighborhood seems ghetto as well.

Didn't Mike buy out Spectrum and merge the two gyms?

My dad worked out there in the 80's and it was sort of a dump even then, they'll figure out some way to stay in business.

I worked out there last year because it was the only gym I could find with a speed bag and a heavy bag that wasn't a UFC gym. Anyone aware of any other gyms that offer that?
Foxys smells like an old high school gym. Absolutely reeks of BO.

I worked out there in the 80's too. I would not call it a dump then. It was just a typical gym that had a lot to offer. This was well before LA Fitness, etc. Golds gym was just some chain out west.

My wife and I go there. We live off of Stumberg, and the combination of price ($50 for family membership with a 2 year contract started summer 2014) location and that it had an indoor swimming pool (I do triathlons) is what sold us. It's kind of a dump, but it gets the job done. I always assume it stays open because the property has been paid off for however long, so the only overhead is staff and the utilities. They definitely aren't spending it on the gym haha.

And yes, the neighborhood is a dump. Gym is sandwiched between some industrial type businesses and Section 8 housing I presume.

EDIT: It seems my comments has received the ire of the owner's or an employee's downvote

It could be donated to the Pennington research center. Great place for getting cultures.
