I got out of corporate America a long time ago, I hate wearing ties. I prefer privately held companies without 5 bosses.

Where I work my boss the president loves the word FCK, the only one that likes it more is the CEO. My first conversation with the CEO was a phone call where he answered my call with "what the fck do you want", he thought I was the president calling him back.

Sounds trashy. I'll assume you're trashy now.

Everyone I work with is completely useless, so I'd say we're pretty laid back.

Dress for the job you want, not the job you got.

Well, I teach, so many of my days depend on the mood of my students. When they're in a good mood then my day is great because I can do what I need to.

I wear jeans and t-shirts and travel around the Southeast calling on craft brewers, drinking really good beer as a job requirement. I also office from home, so Monday's and Friday's I wear gym shorts and t's. I see my boss 3 or 4 times/yr and visit out corporate headquarters 2-3 times/yr. I have to wear slacks and a button down those days. I work for one of largest family owned companies in the world (it's about the size of Exxon) and several of the family members are on the Forbes wealthiest people list.

It's pretty laid back.

Fortune 500 company and my boss says every curse word imaginable, and I say them right back... Team meetings and all.

Go to work in a long sleeve shirt and jeans every day.

Travel around the world doing what I do.

Set my own schedule, make my own travel plans.

That's laid back enough for me.

My job is very laid back but that is because I have an awesome boss.

I work for a top 7 Fortune 500 company.

It's all about your boss and if he can filter the bullshite before it gets to you.

Depends on where I'm working. I was working in Savannah, GA last week and it was so nice and laid back.

I'm currently working in NYC and it's insane.

Driving is the worst part. I had to drive to the Bronx this morning from Long Island and then up to Ossining.

Then I had to come all the way back to Long Island during rush hour. It was a damn nightmare.

We were, but couldn't find any qualified applicants, so the positions were outsourced overseas.

You would not believe how hard it is to find someone with a decent IT background, who can obtain a TWIC, follow written procedures, and who doesn't want to work from home every day.

ETA: And willing to travel up to 60% of the time.

That's what I've always heard but it's awkward wearing a baseball uniform on an offshore oil platform

When my job is good (which is most of the time) it's pretty great. When it's bad it can literally be deadly.

I'm not sure that the "professionals" at your job using the word frick really = laid back. It more likely just means they are trashy.

Work in O&G. Doubt many industries can match us for foul language. That said, my job is very laid back. Jeans or shorts and a Tshirt are the normal uniform. Anything more than a Polo and they think you're going on an interview. Yes the industry sucks right now, but it's still laid back. Haven't enjoyed a job more- even in the bad times- than this one. Has more to do with the owners than anything else. Good people with lots of money, no debt, and an easy going attitude. Makes for a nice work environment.
