Not playing sports was so much better than playing sports.

Second behind academics

This. It can be a great source of school pride and spirit but if the sports teams are all bad then it can have a negative effect.

Honestly sports were my top priority when choosing a high school. I chose to go to a school 30 minutes away from my house with a great athletic program rather than a shitty school down the street. Academics were secondary, but they were also a plus where I ended up going to school so it was a win win.

Just ask Baton Rouge high, school of nerds and hipsters . Sports is a huge part off culture and it can be fun . It can bring people together . Wish I went to catholic instead of brmhs . Wish I could've played football . Sports schools have hotter girls too and enter experience . King bob put it perfectly .

Didn't you say a while back that you went to HS with Brandon Harris?

No marching bands, pep rallies and cheerleaders for basketball aren't the same. Homecoming just doesn't make as much sense when it's not paired with a football game.

I disagree, you think that way because it's the only way you know. I went to a non football school so basketball was the major sport, that's what everything centered around, that's who everyone cheered for, that's what Homecoming was based off of. We had a Homecoming game and it was always huge, had tons of fans ect... Literally the only difference is it was basketball and not football

In Europe, Sport and school aren't paired together. They place emphasis on the curriculum at school and athletics can be done elsewhere.

That means no Friday night football games, no tailgating, no marching band, no cheerleaders, no homecoming dances, and no football pep rallies, all things that seem to be pretty important to the overall high school experience in my opinion.

I played football in HS, and even then I thought most of that shite was fricking ridiculous. I would have been glad to have played in an empty stadium without all the bullshite. Our homecoming dance was the night before duck season opened. I went to the camp.

Very important for private schools. They keep alumni interested. When I was a senior at my high school, every single team made playoffs. This year, almost none did, and none of the big ones.

Their schools are better than ours without qualification. Sports are as well liked over there as over here.
My point is, there is no need to have tax subsidized sports, when we are behind the curve, and those monies could be put to better use.

there's a time to let it go though, I played football with a guy that's been the president of of pretty big corporation for years, he signs off e-mails with his football #, or will call and say "hey this is 81," and playing around of golf is rehashing every play from every game

Went to a social function recently at a private home, the guy who lives there is probably around 50-55, in his office had a "hero wall" with a glass case containing his HS letterman jacket, "game" ball, and shoes, the wall was covered with framed newspaper articles, and photos of his high school games. Was pretty lame for someone that age.

Just talk to almost any BRMHS alum, and they regret going there. Sports is a huge part, I see CHS pictures with all of the ST Joe hos in orange cheering everyone and I just get peesed. For BRMHS sports games, not even parents bothered to show up.

that is lame, I call them the "I love me" walls/rooms, pretty cheesy to me, if you go into my office you'd think I was in the witness protection program, every time I go home to see my mother she metes out some of that crap to my sons, they get a laugh out of it
