Do you put a certain amount in your savings each month or do you do something different?

put a bit into a savings account, then a part in my 401k, then a part in investments... usually take just a bit and then at the end of the month if I have extra I set it aside

I put all my extra cash in my glove box. That way my car is worth more, so if i get in a wreck i can get a bigger check from the insurance company

I go Albertsons and use the coin star machine - put the money on my Applebee's gift card. Will never be hungry again.

Checking account set to transfer a certain amount each payday to a savings account paying .75 percent right now.

Much better to have it programmed to do it automatically. If you have to do it manually, you'll let it slide or forget.

This. Plus a percentage of each check into a 401k that my company matches. I also have a separate investment account.

Yeah I was glad when I started working the job I work now...you don't get a choice...11% goes to retirement fund. Only way to get that money prior to retiring is to quit your job and cash it out.

Forced me to finally start saving for retirement.

Yes, you should be stashing no less then 20% per tax. That goes to everybody. Then after tax, one should pay there selves no less then 10% after tax. Household should cost no more then 30% after taxes. Anything more then that, you living out your means.
