I always associated Newports more with old white ladies and Kools with the blacks.

Newport's were dirt cheap in the early 90s and were usually 2 for 1. They took over the menthol market like that then raised the price.

KOOL - it's all in the name. I used to hang out with a kid who's family ran a grocery store. Even back in the day ALL the blacks bought were KOOL cancer sticks....
