Do you have any redneck friends? Give them a six pack and they should teach you.

You could go to a dealership and see if they'll let you test driving something with a stick.

You think a dealership is gonna let him go joyriding and tear up their transmission? I know I'd go sprinting out telling him to stop if he started bouncing on out of the parking slip.

I "test drove" a new Camaro several years ago when they first came out. I knew how to drive manual, but the salesman seemed very determined for me to ruin the transmission. After running 50+ in 2nd a few times, he finally told me it was time to head back to the dealership.

Most of that probably had to do with me having no intention to buy, but I really was interested in seeing what the new cars could do.

I suggest a dodge diesel truck. Sounds dumb, but a diesel is by far the easiest thing to learn on. They're very hard to stall out.

"Very hard to stall out" has not been my experience with VW's 2.0 diesel. Get too slow in too high of a gear when coming up on a stop and it quits without warning. Let the clutch out too fast and it quits without warning. Etc.

My Mazda and the stickshift Hondas I've driven were more forgiving. VW's clutch is pretty smooth, though.

I should add that I learned to drive stick in my sister's Civic by easing it up and down our driveway. It didn't have enough torque at idle to really move the car so you had to add gas otherwise it'd die if you just tried to slowly let the clutch out. Of course I was sneaking behind her back to do this because she really didn't want me driving her precious little car.

The first car I bought was a manual. I was 17 and female and drove it off the lot. It's not that difficult

Are you sure this Porsche is only stick?

Line up some craigslist test drives.
Find a dealership that doesnt come with you on test drives and take it out for an hour or so

If you don't know how to drive a stick you have no business getting behind the wheel of your friend's porche. Seriously.

THis!!!

You are about to lose a friend.

Nobody can 'learn to drive a stick shift' in one day good enough to ensure you won't grind the gears at least once - or peel out with wheels spinning - or stall the engine.

You friend is not going to be impressed that you are fiddling around with his 100K car knowing you don't have the experience to protect it.

Fess up - and thank him for the gesture. Tell him you just learned how to handle a stick shift yesterday - and then if he says 'go ahead and give it a try' have at it.

BUT - if you try to pretend you know how to use a stick shift, he will know within two minutes that you don't. If I were him, I'd be pissed.

Well a VW is a little different than a truck with 700 ft-lbs of torque

I test drove a truck with a standard before I really knew how to drive one. I was very interested in it so they didn't care. Ended up not buying it though because it blew a line on the oil cooler on the test drive and almost blew up
