Yep. Nothing to do with that Constitution thing.

He has turned into a true politician.

"DO AS I SAY AND NOT AS I DO."

BTW, I love how he refers everything back to the military. "When I was in the Army, this is how I did it..." I have seen this a thousand times from guys when they get out of the military. Newsflash, very VERY little translates between the military and civilian life. Our entire country is kind of based on that as a matter of fact. If he wants to live in a military-themed country, he should try one of the garden spots like North Korea or China. They have that whole gun control thing licked.

You're right. The Constitution has pretty much nothing to do with our gun culture. It allows for it to exist. Nothing more.

He's not conservative, although he might be Republican (IDK). I like the general, but he's wrong on this issue.

FTR - all he did was yell at people at the Superdome - not at me personally, but at some of my troops and others within earshot.

The bad guys and the crazies will find something to kill you with, if that's what they want to do. I don't give a flying frick how many laws are written. As the population has rapidly grown in this country over the last century things have gotten a little more heated on some problem issues.

That said, I want to be able to protect myself or my loved ones if the need arises, and pray that the need never arises.

I remember him saying a while back that the Democrats were "stuck on stupid".

Met him before. He's a great public speaker... but seemed like a real dickbag.

He was my CG in 2ID. He was cool to the enlisted at least. When he took over at the change of command ceremony, he skipped his speech and let the whole division off work. All right in my book.

Doesn't make him conservative, though. Ask Ralph Nader what he thinks of Democrats.

I think you see full on pick up/confiscation in a generation a la Australia.

Gun laws don't work and they never will, each mass gun shooting gets closer and closer to that reality. How long it takes is the real question.

And I'm not necessarily a proponent but nothing else is going to work.

I agree. The problem is the gun culture in the inner cities, but we are in denial and blame it on the gun culture in rural areas, which isn't actually a problem.

Exactly. The gun culture I grew up with is vastly different than the gun culture I see on television, rap videos, etc.

I don't remember the details but Australia outlawed or heavily restricted guns, years back, after a mass shooting.

He has trouble making a very important distinction here - none of the psychotic mass shooters fit anywhere in general firearms culture. They simply get one no matter the cost (one killed his mother, this guy passed a background check, so did the Aurora shooter).

None of these individuals were regular shooters. None of these individuals had concealed carry permits (this guy was even denied). None of these guys show any signs of sanity.

The gun "problem", as one poster put it, is in the inter cities. They rack up insanely high body counts. Most of these individuals are repeat offenders and gang members. They pad the statistics to make it seem like the rise in gun ownership and gun carriage is the problem. But is it?

America is more heavily armed and more legally able to carry in public than ever before. Despite this fact, the violent crime rate has steadily declined since 1992. It is actually 50% lower than it was in 1992. This does not necessarily prove that "more guns equals less crime" but it does disprove that "more guns equals more crime."

Read about the city of Kennesaw, Georgia. It enjoys one of the lowest crime rates in the country due to a mandate written years ago that said that every household must have at least one gun. They wrote this law to respond to a crime problem and saw an 89% decrease in violent crime the following year.

There also has to be a distinction between mass shootings and violent attacks. Violent attacks are usually perpetrated by multiple attackers on one lone person. They are violent and end quickly. Mass shootings are shown to be in higher income, lower crime areas (hence the increased media coverage). Mass shootings are also quite rare in the grand scheme of crimes. They are somewhat unpredictable but all follow the theme of being in a place where they are almost guaranteed to not have armed victims shooting back.

Psychotic mass killers know this - go for the weakest you can and rack up a high body count. Most of them off themselves at the slightest sign of resistance. They are ultimately cowards.

I wish these articles would report all the facts. Gun culture is not the problem here. The increased number of firearms since Obama has been in office has not been the problem. Most of these shooters have gotten their guns by legal means. Background checks don't always work because they are still run by humans, and humans are fallible creatures.

Unfortunately, this has to be noted constantly. You'd think it would go without saying. I own guns, and there are people so freaked out about that that they can't wrap their minds around the fact that I'm actually not the exact same guy as Sirhan Sirhan.

Basically, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the Lafayette shooter, and 10 being Wavy Gravy, a law-abiding gun-owner is a 9, but we have a sizable population of leftist anti-gunners who think that a law-abiding gun-owner is a 1.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote. And what you wrote illustrates how gun laws don't work.

No idea when but there will be a tipping point, your right to own firearms privately versus what people see as a "remedy" to mass shootings.
