I have homeowner insurance through May of 2023. I got my initial policy in May of 2022. I have heard horror stories of all companies refusing to renew or write new policies south of I10. I live on the East Bank of Jeff Parish. I was hoping for a list of companies still writing policies besides Citizens. I know most major ones are gone and UPC pulling out as well.

Appreciate it, helps ease my fears. I had heard quotes of like 15k a year for homeowner. Which is over double what I pay now. If all the quotes that high I'd be unable to afford my house.

I’m in Metairie and have State Farm. Expensive and their rate hikes suck every year. I tried to get quotes a few years ago, but it was hard to find companies that would still write policies. And obviously even worse now.

I'm with state farm as well through Dover Bay. I'm paying 6.5k a year now. Trying plan for next year and expecting 2K a year increase minimum, I guess. Unless I get dropped.

The main issue you'll have will depend on the age of the roof. My suggestion is that if you think you may have an issue find an independent agent who can shop multiples policies.

I’m in Metairie. I was dropped by Southern Fidelity when they went under a few month ago. I received 4 quotes that were greater than a 100% increase. I was strongly considering self insuring since I’ve never had a claim. Ended up with State Farm at a 50% increase at $7800 per year.

Always your best play any time & anywhere.

A State Farm agent works for State Farm. He is not your agent. He is your State Farm agent. There is a huge difference when it comes time for you to make a claim.

Words matter. Never more so than in the world of insurance.

I called multiple brokers who could shop different companies. Most were quoting wind and hail through citizens, roughly 6k/yr for citizens wind and hail + private fire/liability.

Finally found a policy through Sure that covered everything at 3.2k. It took a week or so of calling around and shopping different companies but well worth the time.

Appreciate the advice everyone. I put a new roof on the house soon as I bought in May. As long as I can find something under 10,000 a year I can get by maybe not comfortably but can do it. I have a couple brokers I'll check with too

This is who I am with and my policy is a little more than this. My policy jumped because the estimated costs to rebuild went up.

Back to OP, as others said check around with local brokers (I use Riverlands) and they can shop around for you. If your company was going to drop you, you most likely would have already been dropped or would already know by now.

SageSure was fine for me for a little bit but they left Louisiana after Ida payouts. They offered me a Sure plan that was like a 220% increase for the coverage I had with them before. It's a shitty situation to find homeowners insurance in Louisiana right now.

They kinda fkd me over some small shite. Not enough for me to litigate. Might as well had not paid premium.

They offered the same to me but I wouldn't consider entering any new agreement with those fkrs after Ida

Financial assurance. scotth@fala.net Independent and multiple plans. In Metairie. Got a quote on lake front house $26,000. Lowered it to $16000. By the way a new roof lowers your premium a lot.

Definitely call Kirk Gilfour of Goosehead Insurance. (985) -859-6979. He's a franchisee not your traditional corporate agent of Goosehead.

He can shop you around, still has a few carriers in Louisiana. He lives in TX now but still licensed in Louisiana and has helped many.

In these crazy times its a great way to save money just by making a phone call for a qoute.

Kirk was excellent and really took the time to explain everything to us and how it worked and treated us like family.

We previously had Travelers auto insurance and we got it around 2 yrs ago from another broker. Kirk also uses Travelers. So he ran the numbers with our exact coverage word for word and his was cheaper. The reason he doesn't charge some of the extra fees that many brokers do. We were able to get exact coverage using Safeco for much cheaper so went with them.

With being a franchisee of Goosehead not just a corporate agent, I believe he has more plans to shop from and perhaps other perks.

In my line of work I deal with Homeowner's insurance daily. They all suck. Farm Bureau, USAA, and Progressive tend to be the better ones. Farm Bureau is actively writing policys for people who have had their roof replaced within the last 5 years and are giving a discount for doing so. Sometimes you're better off calling no name insurance broker and letting them go out and get you quotes. You may end up with a smaller no name company but those are not bad at all to work with.
