Who is a reputable home builder that will build on my lot in Ascension Parish? We're thinking about Schumacher Homes but I've read a lot of conflicting reviews online about them. I guess no builder is going to satisfy everyone but it seems like there are nightmare stories galore with just about any builder, so I'm coming to you fine frickers of the OT for recommendations.

Looking to spend no more than $200k - $210k on the house, not including the land.

TIA

i wouldn't build any 2000 sq ft home that outkicks the price per sq ft most dsld homes in area go for. that's legit advice.

So are you saying to go with DSLD given my budget? Because I've heard that they're the worst. I'm confused.

I was serious too. If you overspent on the lot and now you think you're going to stick the builder to a tight budget, you're going to be very stressed out. And you won't hook a good builder.

It's pay to play with builders in Ascension. Or you pay less and have to be at your property, cracking a whip, daily.

Will DSLD build on your site? I thought they only build in subdivisions on lots they own.

FWIW, I’ve known a lot of people who live/lived in DSLD homes. None have complaints, apart from them being very generic. Some of my friends have lived in the homes 10+ years now, and have had no maintenance or structural issues at all.

Don't pay 115 per sq ft to build a "custom" 2000 sq ft home when DSLD homes all around you are selling for 95 per sq ft. (i'm just making up numbers here)

If you have the spare time, sub contract it yourself. You'll save 10-15% or can put it towards nicer finishes.

Go to neighborhoods being built and look at houses under construction. You can get a idea of how well they do based on that. I saw one house last week where the builder used scrap Lumber for studs and plywood he must have found on the side of the road. But it passed inspection.
