So if a person is given a script for a med that’s $1100 and it turns out that you’re allergic, are you just out the $1100?

I figure you are but what do I know.

No health insurance? My heart meds are $800 a month but with my insurance, I pay $10.

It's best to stay away from doctors and their pharmaceuticals, if you can.

Yes, once you paid for the prescription you aren't going to get a refund. It's always a good idea to schedule a follow-p appt with any doctor that prescribes you something new within 30 days of starting the meds to review any intolerance, allergies, side effects, etc.

And it’s probably only $100 a month in other countries.

We pretty much subsidize the world’s prescription drugs. The US population pays for all the R&D for the new drugs while other countries don’t contribute.

Yes, you are out of the money. Pharmacies don't generally take back meds once they leave or are opened. Donate it to SVDP pharmacy and move on.

Just finished read a book-sickening,HOW BIG PHARMA BROKE
AMERICAN HEALTH CARE
by John Abramson,MD
He discusses how Americans get ripped off by Pharma.
Big part of the book has to with medical journals that Drs.have traditionally read to keep up with advances in medicine.Studies that are printed in these journals are tainted with corrupted studies that are paid for by pharma. The
journals make no effort to determine the veracity of these studies for fear of losing advertising dollars from drug companies.
It really is infuriating.

The only part I didn’t like was he advocated for Covid vaccinations. To be fair he wrote the book before the mRNA vaccines were proven to be ineffective in preventing illness and transmission of the virus.

As a side note, neighbor fully vaxxed and boosted just got it for 3’rd time.BiL ,also vaxed and boosted has it now for 4’th time.

First, blame the patient. The patient is explicitly asked for their allergies, including drugs, multiple times during nearly any visit. Not the doctor's fault. Being allergic to Sulfa means you're allergic to tens or potentially hundreds of meds in the same family, as an example. It sucks, but it sounds like you're asking for an elder, and hasn't been 1955 for a while.

If the patient doesn't tell the doc, what is the doc supposed to do? The pharmacy?

As soon as the patient takes delivery of the meds, they can't be recycled or repatriated/reused.

Had a manager that received a monthly shot that was $75K a month. Doubled our premiums in one year.

One of my friends dad had kidney cancer and his prescriptions were $35,000 for one and $15,000 for the other if he didn’t have insurance. It’s fricking ridiculous.
