Here's a house for sale I'm interested in, but it needs lots of updating and I've never done that.

Priorities are:
1) new carpet in 3 bedrooms
2) kitchen counters, wall paper removal, and appliances.
3) bathrooms
4) exterior paint

It's listed for about 15-20% under comps, with good reason. It's about 2600sq/ft.

I just hope you don't plan on living there while all that stuff is going on.

I mean if you do the kitchen and bathrooms nice, those alone would most likely cost at least $50k

Highly dependent on finishes, appliances etc. Are you doing any the work or having it done?

I would make sure grandma didn't die in that house before you buy it

With how cramped the kitchen and bathrooms are, where the f is the 2600sf?

If I'm buying that house, I'm blowing out some walls to open it up. I'm probably changing out those aluminum windows.

Spend $1k to replace the carpet and a few bottles of Dep wallpaper remover then be done. Yes, it's not the freshest look, but it seems to be in decent condition.

Think I remember that house from that commercial when grandma fell and couldn't get up

Formal living, formal dining, and a study. Different priorities in the 1940s.

So you're blowing out some walls, right?

Maybe. I haven't even seen it in person yet. Wanted to get some ideas of the undertaking before asking a contractor or architect to tag along. Hell, I can't even tell if those are 8 or 9 foot ceilings - 8 would be a deal breaker.

They're asking $105/ft. Renovated houses in the area go for $130ish. It's not my dream house, just looking for a deal.

This is my best guess not knowing what kind of countertops you want and guessing those bathrooms are a complete gut job

That's 8'. Look at the distance between the top of the doors and the ceiling.
