Marrero teen accused of luring other boys to send nude photos, video online

Authorities in Plaquemines Parish have arrested a Marrero teen accused of posing as a woman online and pressuring other teenage boys to send him nude photos. In at least one case, police said the nude photos were used as blackmail to force the victim to send a more explicit sex video.

Cole Altemus Edwards, 17, was arrested Jan. 13 on two counts of extortion and one count of indecent behavior with juveniles.

Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco said his office started investigating Edwards after a 16-year-old victim came forward.

Edwards -- posing as woman online using the screen names "samb8909" and "barbie8909" – encouraged the victim to send nude photos. In return, Edwards sent nude photos of an unidentified female, who the victim thought he was talking with.

Edwards later asked the victim to send a sex video of himself doing "whatever (Edwards) wanted him to do," police said. The victim declined and Edwards threatened to share the nude photos the victim sent with friends and family.

Investigators aided by the state attorney general's office traced the IP address behind the messages to the Marrero home where Edwards lived. A forensic investigation of Edwards' cell phone found a nude photo of a separate male teenaged victim.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office said Edwards confessed to posing as a woman online and extorting sexual images and video for his own sexual gratification.

During an interview with investigators, Edwards described a separate incident in mid-December where he successfully obtained a sex video from a male teenage victim.

Edwards, who was booked at Belle Chasse lockup, was released Jan. 15 after posting a $27,500 cash bond.
