Any OT'ers have any experience with the recovery time and care taking it calls for after the surgery? Bone cancer in left rear leg. Husky. Removing entire leg. Sorry no pic of the ole boy. Wish him luck!

Should do pretty well with it being a back leg. Most of the weight is on the front legs - seems to bother the owners more than the dogs. I trust that they did plenty of work up to ensure the cancer had not spread to the rest of the body as there may be little point in amputation if that's the case.

Honest question why not put him down? How old is he? Dog lover here and don't want to sound like a dick - just curious of the decision process

Good luck.

Sorry for the issue.

A good husky dog is a damn good dog.

Sometimes the cancer is limited to the leg and you can get an actual cure with amputation. Dog goes on to live a normal happy life with just a change in how it runs and walks. In a very old dog this may not always be done but plenty of young dogs can develop stuff like this.

Just saw the edit. My lab had the same leg removed for the same reason. Very very quick recovery and they don't even notice. Enjoy your time that is left and show him a lot of love while you can.

He is one of two Huskies that I have outside and I've had them for 11 years. The dog seems to be very healthy regarding heart and lungs and overall composure of himself. He seems very happy and active and has been walking on 3 legs for the last week. He was fine up until last weekend. Again, he is very active with just his leg not being able to function. I say if you can afford the amputation why not.

This is exactly the case. Some dogs have a chance of living a really long life after and some aren't so lucky. Mine was the latter and they feel a lot better with the leg removed honestly it takes all the pain away.

Bob Marley would still be alive today if he would have amputated his toe.

Ty for comments. Thinking I made the right decision rather than the alternative. Ty again.

No doubt that you are. I was nervous to when I made the decision and it ended up being some of the best memories after the amputation. Good luck.

A lady at my office had a dog's leg amputated a while back, and it adapted really quickly to the loss of the limb. Rear leg as well. Dogs are awesome. Best of luck.

Dog should be fine. They don't know what handicapped means.

Unless it was a very old dog it sounds like this is the right decision for the situation.
