Have you or someone you know ever experienced a series of unfortunate events?

This weeks episode of This Is Actually Happening Podcast (highly recommend) was focused on a guy who was involved in a major car accident at the age of 17. Following the accident he became fearless of death. But the people around him would experience death in many ways (mutliple family members dying, his favorite school teacher being murdered and he saved a guys life that eventually murdered a child).

My best friend lost his son to suicide three weeks ago. Talking to him afterward he lost a son 10 years ago when his ex wife was driving drunk, wrecked and killed his 15 year old son.

The suicide was a .45 to the temple in the house when both parents were home. Extremely gruesome and the kid videotaped it.

I don't know how anyone goes on and functions afterward.

I once ate too much, followed by too much alcohol. It culminated in me shitting my pants.

It was very unfortunate.

I saw him last thursday, he was bitter and angry blaming a drug dealer he doesn't know for drugs his kid may have not even be taking. He was about to go to the police station to get the phone and video.

The whole thing was about a female, and he recorded it to get back at her.

He's a black guy from Alabama who used to be a State Trooper in Mississippi, and left because people were giving him an extremely hard time about his interracial marriage.

He's an awesome guy, but he's in a dark place and there is no way to help him.

Did show any signs of being positive about anything? The reason I ask, people like that aren't too far from going off the deep end.

No, he's just bitter and angry. He told me what he discovered when he found his sons body, and I'll avoid going into details here but it was gruesome.

His wife is despondent, and she was usually the strong one for him.

JPD literally blocked his car in his driveway for three days because they were concerned for him.

People either come out of things like this with a totally different perspective on life and become somewhat enlightened or they go off the deep end. Not sure what direction he's going.

My religion teacher in high school had 2 sons, one of which I knew well. Both committed suicide within a few years of each other. Can't imagine having to live through that

I know a girl who about a year ago found out her husband was cheating, and now they are divorcing. A few months ago she got laid off from her job. Last month her friend and roommate suddenly died. I'd say those are all pretty unfortunate.

Yea, I can definitely see the bitter angle. It's still an awful situation to have to deal with.

In 2012, I was laid off and found out my wife had a serious drug problem she had been hiding. Then I found out she had been sleeping with another guy to get drugs. I had to take out a lot of my retirement money to pay for her to go to rehab and for us to live off of. Then when I was offered another job at the end of the year, I had no choice put to take a huge pay cut (almost half of what I was making). Worst year of my life.

One son, early 30's. Also a grandson. Hopefully that will keep him from the edge.

he's an avid outdoorsman, hopefully he just took his boat and disappeared for a few days to develop some perspective.

My first born died, the day after burying him Im driving back to Houston for a job my crew was on. I get a phone call when I'm just getting into Beaumont. It's the the big boss,I'm thinking he's just checking on me. He was a good fella. He says hey man I have some bad news for you but you already been through worse. You just got laid off. This wasn't just a job. It was my career. I went to college for this specific area of telecommunications. Lay offs had been going on for a year. Out of 5,000 to get laid off I was the last of the 500. After that layoff everyone was kept. It was a blow to my phsyche and man hood. I was in a dark place for 6months before I snapped out and 15 years later it still stings to think about it.
Bury your first born and lose your career that you worked hard for years in advance and everything in one blink of an eye is changed.

When I was in high school a guy I knew killed himself because his girlfriend was moving out of state. I know not a good reason, he had to be having other issues. It was his excuse on a note.
Thing is her parents changed their mind that morning. She called to tell him the good news 3 minutes late.

Katrina
Death of mother
Divorce
Death of father
Being flooded out the Covington weather event.
