No. One time I was with someone who pulled over, pretended he was going to pick up a hitch hiker.. When the dude started running closer he took off. It was a shitty thing to do, but the guy I was with didn't even say "hey I am about to do this".. He just did it, pulled off like it was no big deal.

Me and a couple of buddies left the Ameristar Casino in Vicksburg around 2000 at 6am after a long night of cards. We picked a guy up at the Mound exit headed west bound. The guy said he could not ride in the back of the truck and had to sit up front if he was going to accept a ride. After several minutes of confusion, arguing, and cursing, we let him sit shotgun. He was let out at the Tallulah exit after voicing his concerns for his safety.

I swore to never pick up a hitchhiker after that particular day.

Its pretty risky to hitchhike and to pick up hitchhikers. In theory its good to want to help someone, but you don't know what kind of crazy frick you will pick up.

Yes, picked up an old homeless lady who wasn't even thumbing for a ride. Said she was walking south to Louisiana (picked her up in NW Arkansas) before it got cold for the winter. Everything she had was in a trash bag.

Took her to a food bank and got her a hot meal and some groceries. Gave her $100 and dropped her back off on the highway.

She protested at everything we tried to do for her. She didn't want anyone else to be put out on her account.

Several times. Best was two girls I picked up in Cantwell, AK going to Anchorage. Ivy leaguers who had been camping in Denali for a week. Bad rainstorm when I picked them up so It washed away the stink.

I have picked up a couple of different guys hanging around gas stations who needed a ride...always made them ride in the back and tap on the window when they are ready to get out. always am sure that they see that I have a pistol in the truck with me before they accept the ride, too. haven't done it in a number of years though, as there are some crazy frickers out there.

last time I was tempted was stopping for gas at a station on I-20 and was approached by a girl wearing a chi-o t-shirt and crying. She asked if I could give her a ride to Lafayette. Something about the whole deal just didn't seem right, so I told her I was not going that way and she moved on.
