Have you ever given a eulogy?

I'm always amazed how people can stand up in front of a large crowd at a funeral and deliver an amazing message without losing it. I hate funerals and I tear up/cry often during them. Major props to those who can stand and deliver.

I haven't. But our president did once at a KKK leaders funeral.

I gave my fathers. I held it together until the last sentence and then began tearing up/choking up.

I gave one at my grandmother's funeral about 12 years ago. It was tough, but I felt inspired to do it in her honor.

Yes.

At my dad’s.

Was scared beforehand, but while doing it, it was easy.

Yup, for my mom. It sucks but once you get over the jitters of being sad, it's second nature because you truly believe the words you are saying and it's sharing aspects of someone's life that not everyone knows about.

I have and I was honored to do so. Military buddy from the late 80s. I usually avoid all funerals, but I felt like I had to do this one. His father spoke, His son spoke and I went last.

I did for my dad b/c none of my other siblings would step up and I figured somebody needed to say something. I was holding it together ok until I told a story about my dad and my niece, at which point my niece started bawling and I quickly followed. I was kind of rambling at that point anyway, so it gave me a good excuse to wrap things up.

Haven't done a eulogy yet but I imagine I will in the future.

I'm a big fan of wedding speeches if i'm in the wedding. I'd like to think I'm pretty great at them too

I was asked to give one for a very good friend. One of the bigger LSU Tiger fans I know. For the service you were asked to wear Purple and Gold. His body was cremated, he was buried in a LSU Purple and Gold Football helmet urn.
RIP Bobby Jr.

Several. Worst one was my brother who was 8 years older but who had a huge hand in raising me. I was going to speak about 5 minutes because I hate sitting through long drawn out ceremonies such as funerals.

The church was full with people from all over the planet as he was a muckity muck in oil and gas and had traveled the world. Funeral had to be put off a few days due to folks coming in from all over.

Anyway, got to telling stories about him and his five marriages and how he taught me everything I know, much of what would have most folks in prison.

It ended up well until I got to the very end and I lost it for a few minutes.

Most funerals I’ve been to don’t have eulogies

It's not as bad as you thik it might be. You usually have plenty you want to tell the world about a loved one, whether it's about what they meant to you or the family, or about their character, or their accomplishments, or funny/proud/poignant anecdotes. Your memories of why they were special. A memorial.

I've actually found it harder to give an entertaining wedding speech that makes a shithead buddy look like the Greatest Guy in the World.

I like them when they do a good job and make it easier to include most of the crowd. Not when they "bro" out with some inside joke that nobody gets except for a couple people.

Did my father's two years ago! It was tough but I held it together. My uncle gave me some good advice. If you come to a topic or specific word that is going to make you lose it. Skip it and try to come back to it later.
