I’ve never seen this happen but considering the other jackassery that happens in parking lots, I’m not surprised by it.
Like others have said, I park far and walk. Drama over a spot that’s 100 ft closer to the door is just dumb.

They try this shite in the free lots on LSU’s campus in the fall. Except the lazy bastards use chairs.

I've had it happen a couple times in tight parking lots. When I had my old Range Rover I had a woman do it to me and kept yelling that her husband was on his way. I pulled in as far as I could and parked, a couple foot was sticking out of the spot. I went inside (I think a doctors office with a small lot) and told the clerk what happened and what the woman looked like. I heard her get told that she can't do that in the parking area when she came inside.
Another time it was in a bigger parking area and I did the same thing, pulled in as much as I could and parked.
Now that I am solely on my Sierra pickup I can't do that. It is too long, I would have half the drive blocked now.
People that do this are complete assholes plain and simple. I've had people stop and wait next to an open spot because someone has reverse lights on two spots closer and they sit there blocking me for 5 minutes waiting. People are a. dumb and b. lazy.

There was a restaurant across the border in Mexico we used to frequent, it had free parking. However, you had to tip/bribe the security guard to watch your vehicle while you ate.
