I think its always best to get there 2hrs before flight.. You might have to wait a little while on the back end, but at least you get all the shite out the way and you will, in most cases, be ready to get on the plane when time comes.

I stayed at that Hilton last month. I left some training I was at early to account for long lines. Was literally at my gate in under 10 minutes. You can see the wait times on tsa's website. Wish I had know that before that day

When I fly out of Atlanta, I usually arrive 2 1/2 hours earlier regardless of the departure time. Easy to kill time once you're in the airport, usually grab breakfast and read my twitter feed. Would assume Chicago would be a similar size to Atlanta, so that'd be my suggestion.

Honestly be there no later than 8am. It's always easier to wait in the lounge with a Bloody Mary than stressing in TSA hell possibly missing your flight because some jackodf went on a power trip
