Has karate become nerdy?

It was the cool thing from mid-80s and well into 90s. Now it seems to have become something much less on the cool charts.
I am grouping all martial arts into karate, I know it's wrong, but that's what it was called back then.

Nerdy or not. We enjoy it. We travel all over the country watching my son compete.
